Street Vendors vs. Merchants

Store owners already challenged by COVID-19 regulations and the resulting lockdowns and other onerous regulations have an additional hurdle to overcome: the increased presence of street vendors, many of whom are illegal.

There are as many as 20,000 street vendors in New York City.

The New York City Council has just passed legislation, Intro 1116, that lifts the permit cap by 4,000.

Brick and mortar stores become a fabric of their communities in a way that transient vendors do not. They contribute to the permanent improvement of neighborhoods and provide employment opportunities, all at significant expense and risk to owners.

Brewski’s

The best restaurant reviews are here! Renowned food reviewer Bailey Provetto, the founder of Tasty Ladies New York, reviews BID restaurants. Visit our website regularly for the latest delicious news.

Due to the pandemic, New York restaurants are once again shut down for inside dining. This is destroying restaurants where many may not be reopening.

Many of them are investing money and revamping their outside dining with tents, enclosures, heating systems etc.

We will be checking out all our Winter dining options starting in the Bronx.

Bewski’s has a huge area in the back of their restaurant that usually is used for big events from St. Patrick’s day to Oktoberfest, or the big game! The owner Albi put in a forced heated air system to keep diners nice and warm while they enjoy their amazing menu, craft beers and full bar.

We started with soups, French onion soup and the soup of the day, Chorizo lentil soup which was flavorful and hearty.

Our entrees were one of their delicious burgers with fries and the other was a decadent braised Angus short rib, creamy fontina cheese, fig jam & pickled red onions on San Francisco sourdough bread sandwich with truffle fries. Talk about an addictive sandwich!

Their menu has an awesome variety to choose from and if you are having delivery or take out don’t forget their completely mobile Quarantini or Quaranfreezie to make it complete.

Whether you dine at their outside tent, get delivery or take-out, please support our restaurants.

Brewski’s is completely COVID COMPLIANT with temperature check and contact info at door, social distanced tables, employees in masks, menus online, and disposable utensils and dishware and sanitizing stations.

Street Vendor Bill

The Throggs Neck BID has joined other Bronx BIDs in opposing plans for a dramatic increase in street vendor permits.  The measure is expected to vote tomorrow on the bill.

The legislation that would more than double the number of street vendor permits, creating 4,000 new sidewalk and street food-selling permits by 2032. These are in addition to 3,000 currently issued by the  health department. Mayor de Blasio supports the measure.

BID Dedicates Tree

A long-hoped for community goal, the planting of a tree at Derosa-O’Boyle Triangle, was achieved by the Throggs Neck BID recently, with the help of Councilmember Mark Gjonaj.  A touching ceremony dedicating the tree, named in honor of the late Benjamin Randazzo (who initiated using the site for holiday commemoration) to First Responders and Essential Workers, was held on Saturday, January 16.   Councilmember Mark Gjonaj, Assemblyman Mike Benedetto (Whom Randazzo worked for) Father Norton of St. Benedict’s Parish, John Murano, and members of the Randazzo family attended and addressed those attending. Members of the NYPD, NYFD, Sanitation, Throggs Neck Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and others were present and honored for their extraordinary efforts.
