Wicked Wolf

Renowned food reviewer Bailey Provetto, the founder of Tasty Ladies New York, reviews BID restaurants

Comfort food is at its best at the Wicked Wolf, with an abundance of choices and a friendly atmosphere and staff.

We started with their home made soups to warm the cockles of our hearts. The French onion soup was so good with caramelized onions in a delicious broth with a good covering of cheese melting over on the sides of the crock. The lentil soup was thick with tender lentils, tons of veggies and seasoned perfectly.

Our entrees were old fashioned dishes of Shepard’s pie with a great mashed potato crust on top. The true winner was the Beef Stroganoff with tender chunks of beef in a sumptuous cream sauce over egg noodles .

Their menu has a large selection of comfort food, including burgers, salads, German cuisine, pastas, seafood and grill food with a full bar and wicked cocktails.

Would have loved to have One of their decadent desserts, but with the huge portions and endless bread basket we were too full! Maybe we will start with dessert first next time!

They have a great weekend brunch and specialty days of Monday Taco, wing specials, and Prime Rib.

Indoor Dining Banned Again

From Governor Cuomo:

To mitigate the spread of this disease, food establishments will not be permitted to offer indoor dining beginning on Monday, December 14.

Food establishments that are located outside of State-designated “red zones” are still permitted to offer take-out, delivery, and outdoor dining. Food establishments that are located within State-designated “red zones” may continue to offer take-out and delivery only.

If you are a restaurant owner whose establishment is permitted to offer outdoor dining, you may still sign up to participate in the Open Restaurants program by visiting nyc.gov/openrestaurants. If you are already participating, you may use the same link to check siting requirements and ensure your set up is compliant.

Remember: New York State’s current guidance for outdoor and take-out/delivery food services permits restaurants to install a temporary or fixed cover (i.e. awning, roof, or tent) only if two (2) or more side walls are open.

If your structure has fewer than two (2) side walls open, it is considered an indoor dining area and therefore cannot be used for dining unless:

•          a) you modify the structure to be compliant with New York State’s guidelines;

•          or b) State officials announce that indoor dining may resume.

If you would like to ensure that your set up is compliant with Open Restaurant requirements, you may request a virtual compliance consultation by visiting nyc.gov/bizconsult.

(Editor’s note: EATER Magazine responded to the Governor’s move, noting that “Restaurants and bars accounted for 1.4 percent COVID-19 cases recorded in the last three months, prompting some restaurateurs to push back against the ban…many felt the decision seemed to contradict the data. By comparison, private and social gatherings accounted for nearly 74 percent of COVID- 19 cases tracked by the state between September and the end of November, and the restaurant industry placed fifth overall among the various industries and activities contributing to the spread of the virus.”)

Neighborhood Business Grants

From the Citizens Committee for New York, courtesy of the Bronx Chamber of Commerce:

Small businesses, vital to the fabric of their neighborhoods, will receive grants of up to $10,000 to maintain payroll and operations. We will prioritize businesses owned by people of color, immigrants, and women, businesses that have the greatest need and minimal access to resources, as well as those that modify their operations slightly in order to remain open during the pandemic (i.e., hire delivery workers, increase inventory, or make modifications to provide product pick-up). CitizensNYC has cultivated the infrastructure, expertise, and community knowledge to help struggling New Yorkers directly. Our relentless commitment to empower even the hardest-to-reach New Yorkers has built a reputation that we will now leverage as we embark on this new grant program.   Applications accepted on a rolling basis.

Crosstown Diner

The best BID restaurant reviews are here! Renowned food reviewer Bailey Provetto, the founder of Tasty Ladies New York, reviews BID restaurants.

We have the best diner right here in The Bronx. The Crosstown Diner won the #Foodfight2019 and with good reason.

Tastylady Bailey sipped on a Jolly Rancher, while enjoying the best chicken chili served with chips and a Monster bacon cheese burger with onion rings and fries.

My partner had a delicious pot roast with mash and carrots.

My dinner special of $19 came with your choice of app, etizer, entree and dessert which I had with their always creamy and luscious rice pudding with whip topping and cinnamon powder sparkled on top.

Service was top notch with Renn, and we saw Billy the owner.

 Great place in our neighborhood.

SNOW PREPARATIONS

From the NYC Dept. of Sanitation:

By preparing for snow,  we can keep Open Restaurants going strong all winter long. The NYC Dept. of Sanitation (DSNY) has been training to remove snow on streets with Open Restaurant structures. Protect your patrons, staff and property:

Use snow sticks to increase visibility of your Open Restaurant.

Be prepared to consolidate and remove items when a Winter Operations Advisory or Snow Alert is issued.

Watch for two levels of advisories: Winter Operations Advisory;  Winter weather is possible.

• Roadway dining may continue, but take steps to protect your patrons, staff and property.

• DSNY may spread salt and/or brine to prevent freezing. nyc.gov/dsny | NYCsanitation sanitation Snow Alert:

• One or more inches of snow are possible. • Roadway dining MUST CLOSE by the time indicated in the Alert. • Remove or secure furniture, and remove electric heaters. Remove the tops of your structures if possible.• Remove snow and ice from your sidewalk. If you’re on a corner, clear a path to crosswalk. • Do not to block fire hydrants. • It is illegal to push snow into the street. Snow may be placed at the curbline, against the building, or on private property. • DSNY may begin spreading salt and/or brine on the roadway up to 48 hours before an Alert begins.

NYC Restaurant Owners— What’s your Plan?  If the forecast calls for 12” of snow or more, remove or consolidate your structures, including barriers, to take up as little space as possible. This makes plowing easier and protects your property. The City will announce when the snow alert is over and in-street dining may safely resume.

Sign up for snow alerts and updates via nyc.gov/Notify or @NotifyNYC on twitter.
