BID Meets with MTA
BID Executive Director Bob Jaen and several BID members met with MTA officials on May 12 to discuss transportation issues relevant to the area. The Throggs Neck BID was one of only two Bronx BIDS selected to meet with the MTA.

NYC’s 76 Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) invested more than $170 million in New York City neighborhoods during fiscal year (FY) 2020, boosting approximately 93,000 businesses amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In FY20, BIDs:
- Collected more than 3.4 million trash bags, removed 274,000 instances of graffiti, and employed 650 sanitation workers.
- Held more than 5,000 public events, pivoting many programs to virtual settings after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Sponsored 147 public art installations, investing more than $13 million in streetscape and beautification efforts.
Every day, Business Improvement Districts deliver critical services that help to build a safer, cleaner, and more vibrant city,” said Deputy Mayor for Strategic Policy Initiatives J. Philip Thompson.
In 2020, NYC was the epicenter of the COVID-19 crisis, triggering an immediate city-wide shutdown to prioritize the health and safety of all New Yorkers. This led to an inevitable economic crisis, and the impact continues to be devastating to our smallest businesses. Despite these challenges, BIDs have played a pivotal role as neighborhood champions, business advisors, and government liaisons, delivering supplemental services that revitalize COVID-impacted neighborhoods and foster vibrant commercial corridors.
MTA Management will be at the corner of East Tremont and Randall near the TD Bank on May 12 from 1:30–3pm to discuss issues of volume ridership increase with local businesses.
GOTITALL Has it all
A new, unique store has moved into the BID.
GOTITALL, located at 3789 East Tremont Avenue has a wide range of merchandise, including, quite literally, everything from kitchen sinks to books, and just about everything in between. Televisions, pet supplies, and even dental supplies are available.
The business employs four people, who manage to keep the store open from 10am to 11pm most days.
We spoke with Idalisse Suarez, who along with Louis Nieves, owns the business. She noted that her enterprise seeks to attract customers from throughout the entire city.

Cousin’s Pizza Adds Bakery
Renowned food reviewer Bailey Provetto, the founder of Tasty Ladies New York, reviews BID restaurants.
Cousin’s Pizzeria at 3579 Tremont Avenue has added a bakery to their pizzeria.
They updated the look and it has the decor and feel of an upscale pizzeria with a fun family tree art on the wall with ” A Pizza of our History” with pictures of the owners family.
Their menu is extensive and resembles more an Italian restaurant than just pizzeria. A full array of pastas, entrees, salads, appetizers, Heroes, Calzones, Pinwheels, Beef Patties and of course Pizza! Lots of Pizza, over 10 specialty Pizzas by the slice or by the pie.
I ordered a regular slice, a Sicilian, a sausage slice and a pepperoni pinwheel.
The crust was very nice and crunchy with a nice oven singe on the bottom with zesty sauce and gooey, stringy cheesy goodness. The sausage was sliced thin the way I like it and the pinwheel was perfect.
They just added “The Sweet Spot” with a display of fresh baked cookies and bread, cakes, fresh filled cannolis and gluten free items as well. They have a full coffee station as well.
They have a full array of soft drinks and they have delivery. Catch all their specials on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
Street Vendors vs. Merchants
Store owners already challenged by COVID-19 regulations and the resulting lockdowns and other onerous regulations have an additional hurdle to overcome: the increased presence of street vendors, many of whom are illegal.
There are as many as 20,000 street vendors in New York City.
The New York City Council has just passed legislation, Intro 1116, that lifts the permit cap by 4,000.
Brick and mortar stores become a fabric of their communities in a way that transient vendors do not. They contribute to the permanent improvement of neighborhoods and provide employment opportunities, all at significant expense and risk to owners.

Due to the pandemic, New York restaurants are once again shut down for inside dining. This is destroying restaurants where many may not be reopening.
Many of them are investing money and revamping their outside dining with tents, enclosures, heating systems etc.
We will be checking out all our Winter dining options starting in the Bronx.
Bewski’s has a huge area in the back of their restaurant that usually is used for big events from St. Patrick’s day to Oktoberfest, or the big game! The owner Albi put in a forced heated air system to keep diners nice and warm while they enjoy their amazing menu, craft beers and full bar.
We started with soups, French onion soup and the soup of the day, Chorizo lentil soup which was flavorful and hearty.
Our entrees were one of their delicious burgers with fries and the other was a decadent braised Angus short rib, creamy fontina cheese, fig jam & pickled red onions on San Francisco sourdough bread sandwich with truffle fries. Talk about an addictive sandwich!
Their menu has an awesome variety to choose from and if you are having delivery or take out don’t forget their completely mobile Quarantini or Quaranfreezie to make it complete.
Whether you dine at their outside tent, get delivery or take-out, please support our restaurants.
Brewski’s is completely COVID COMPLIANT with temperature check and contact info at door, social distanced tables, employees in masks, menus online, and disposable utensils and dishware and sanitizing stations.
